Barça: Xavi kicks out Piqué
The Barcelona coach, Xavi, has told Gerard Piqué that he does not count on him anymore.
The coach of Barcelona, Xavi Hernandez, had a meeting with Gerard Piqué two weeks ago. He then let him know that he did not need him for next season. The coach based his decision on Piqué’s physical problems and his unprofessional behavior off the field.
Piqué asked to pack his bags
This interview was delicate because Xavi spoke directly to the captain. He does not question his footballing qualities, which are undeniable, but his ability to endure physically a season like the one ahead. His main problem off the field with Piqué is his multiple other commercial interests.
Xavi believes that Pique’s departure in the most dignified way possible is the best option, especially if he gives up part of the money Barcelona owes him, as Puyol did when he left the Blaugrana.
However, Piqué said that this would not happen and wanted to argue in turn. Piqué said he would train harder than ever to get back to his best form and abandon some of his other commitments.
Xavi insisted that he wanted a central defender to rely on to build a competitive team and said he did not see Piqué in that role. The name of Kounde was mentioned. The coach tried to make his former teammate understand that he would not have as many minutes as before, but the player is determined to stay.
Xavi thinks about the interest of Barça
The case of Piqué is now in the hands of Mateu Alemany. The latter must negotiate with the players who are considered “undesirable”. Piqué has a contract until 2024 and Barcelona already owes him about 40 million euros in deferred payments. The chances of him staying for the moment are 99%.
The information was reported by the daily SPORT, and it reflects Xavi’s intention not to be “tied” indefinitely to a player. Xavi is willing to sacrifice the “sacred cows” of the locker room to help the club improve.
