FC barcelona : Laporta and his racket, revolt in the locker room!
Barça has recovered since the arrival of Xavi as coach. But the Catalan club is still in the grip of major economic difficulties.
Barça fans are hoping to see their club play again in La Liga and the Champions League. The recent seasons have been difficult, both in sporting and economic terms. For example, we can note the departures of important players such as Neymar, Luis Suarez, Antoine Griezmann but especially Leo Messi. Departures often linked to the dramatic economic situation of Barça. The cause? The management of Josep Bartomeu, now replaced by Joan Laporta. A new Catalan president who must face the sad financial reality of the institution blaugrana. Before we can even imagine announcing recruits this summer during the transfer market, Barça will first have to sell and lower the salaries of some of its players.
According to information from Cadena Ser, Joan Laporta wants to save 160 million euros on salaries. This will involve convincing his stars to make sacrifices. Sacrifices already made twice, in 2020 during the Covid crisis but also in 2021. Barça’s goal is to bring the wage bill below 400 million euros, while it is currently 560 million. By achieving this reduction, the Catalans would return to the level of Real Madrid’s wage bill. The media adds that negotiations are already taking place between the club and the players for a general reduction of the team’s salaries by 50%, except for the renegotiated contracts or the recruits of the last winter. Negotiations that for the moment do not start in the best way. As reported by Sport, Sergio Busquets, Gerard Piqué or Jordi Alba do not want to lower their emoluments again. A solution will have to be found quickly, otherwise the next summer mercato will be compromised, which would lead to another difficult season for Barça.
