Mercato: Raphinha close to signing for Arsenal rather than Barça

The Brazilian will not wait for Barca and hopes to sign for Arsenal this week. Leeds sources say they know nothing about the Catalan club.

Barcelona has spent months considering Raphinha as the favorite to replace Ousmane Dembélé. The Frenchman’s contract expires on June 30 and the Blaugrana have no chance of renewing it due to his high financial demands. Therefore, the Blaugrana have decided to acquire the left winger from Leeds United knowing the financial constraints that have been imposed on them in recent seasons.

Arsenal takes advantage of Barça’s economic situation
Barça has the advantage of having Deco, their trusted man in Brazil and Raphinha’s direct representative, but the Spanish club does not yet have the economic capacity that will allow them to obtain the famous “palancas”, which must be obtained before July 31 to be able to increase the salary limit for next season.

Barça has “disappeared” according to Leeds
No “levers”, no salary cuts, no departure of important players like Frenkie de Jong to free up space in the wage bill. In fact, the English club has no news from Barça. “They’ve disappeared,” they say from the Elland Road offices. Given Barcelona’s situation, Arsenal have done the work to finish ahead of the battle to get the Brazilian winger.

And they will succeed in their bet – if everything goes as planned – according to sources close to the Leeds club, in the next few days. Leeds United were asking around 50 million for the left-handed striker, a figure that Barça did not want to pay from the start. In fact, a relegation to the Championship would have facilitated the operation for the Culés, who would have taken him out of England for about 25 million, because the initial desire of the player – and his agent Deco – was to wear the Blaugrana colors.

But with Leeds managing to stay in the Premier League, there is no obligation to sell the Brazilian and the price is still prohibitive for Barça, which has led the Catalan club to interrupt communications with the English team. Since no new offer was made, Leeds and Raphinha himself decided to go elsewhere. If nothing happens on the side of Barça, the Brazilian will join Arsenal.
