mercato: When Lewandowski hunts on Cristiano Ronaldo’s land

Robert Lewandowski could become the second most expensive player over 30 in history if he completes his transfer to Barcelona.

Barcelona and Bayern Munich are in negotiations to complete a deal for the 33-year-old Polish striker this summer.

Barcelona have made Lewandowski their number one target for the summer transfer window and have been in talks with the former Borussia Dortmund player since March.

Lewandowski, whose contract with Bayern expires in 2023, wants to join the Camp Nou because he would like to take on one last challenge at a big club before the end of his career.

Barcelona has reportedly already received two offers of 32 and 40 million euros rejected by Bayern.

Barcelona is expected to present a new and improved offer of 50 million euros, but according to Sky Germany, Bayern is expecting 60 million euros.

If Bayern gets 60 million euros, Lewandowski will become the second most expensive player over 30 in history.

It would match the amount Barcelona paid for Miralem Pjanic to Juventus in 2019, although that was a swap that saw Arthur Melo go the other way for a slightly higher amount, in a deliberately inflated exchange to balance the books.

The most expensive player over 30 in history is Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo was transferred from Real Madrid to Juventus for an incredible €117 million in 2018, at the age of 33.

Other stars transferred for big money after 30 include Paulinho (€42 million) to Barcelona, Leonardo Bonucci (€42 million) to AC Milan and Radja Nainggolan (€38 million) to Inter Milan.

Lewandowski is willing to do anything to join Barcelona. He has recently made several public statements saying that his time at Bayern is over and asking the club to let him go.

This has led to an ugly war of words between Lewandowski and Bayern officials.

Earlier this week, Lewandowski told reporters that “I have not considered any other offer than Barcelona. I want to leave Bayern, that’s clear.”

Barcelona recently received a capital injection that should allow them to start spending money in the transfer market soon.
