Real Madrid: Marcelo’s emotional farewell
After 16 years at Real Madrid, Marcelo held a farewell ceremony this Monday at Valdebebas. Accompanied by his family and the president Florentino Perez, the Brazilian fullback lived his “favorite moment” with the club of his life.
It was impossible for him to hold back his tears. The most successful player in the history of Real Madrid with 25 titles, including 5 Champions League, Marcelo (34) will no longer play for the club next season, but this Monday was a day placed under the sign of emotion in Valdebebas. “Today we pay tribute to our captain, who has become a man of the club and is one of our great legends. He is the most successful player of Real Madrid. Dear Marcelo, you have achieved all your dreams since you were a child,” said Florentino Perez, who praised the trajectory of the Brazilian, since his arrival in 2006.
“I leave a legacy and that was the goal”
The interested party cried, as it could not be otherwise, despite a less successful season (17 games in all competitions). “It is difficult to leave the club of your life after 16 years, a lot of moments of joy, suffering, pain, training sessions … I give everything for the club. I don’t complain, I would do it again. Wearing this jersey is something very beautiful. I did what I had to do, history is already written,” said the man who won a last Champions League on May 28 against Liverpool. Not having “the words” to express his gratitude to Real, Marcelo spoke of his legacy. “I’m going away very happy, I leave a legacy and that was the goal. To see Vinicius, Rodrygo, Militao, Fede, Camavinga… To see them play, it’s priceless”.
In addition, he wanted to pay a tribute to Raul, who was present at the press conference. “When my son was born, you taught me a lot as a captain. You gave a basket with many things and I can not forget it. From there, I started to see you as an example and I wanted to follow it. Today I leave here being able to say that you were my example. I leave here with my head held high”, explained Marcelo, the one who leaves “like a man”, from Real Madrid.
